March 22, 2015

Title: God Gives Solomon Wisdom     Passage: 1 Kings 2:1–4; 3:1–15

Principle: We are unable to obey God without His help. Praise: “Create in Me a Clean Heart”

Prompt: Ask your child these questions:

  • How did David tell Solomon to live? • What did Solomon ask for, and how did God give it to him? Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:
  • By asking God for the wisdom to obey Him. • By assessing whether his requests are motivated by God’s glory.

This Week: As a family, read selected portions of I Kings 2:1–4; 3:1–15. 

Next Week: 1 Kings 8:1–9:9

Title: God’s Glory Fills the Temple     Passage: 1 Kings 8:1–9:9

Principle: Christians must learn to depend on God’s faithfulness.

Praise: “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High”

Prompt: Ask your child these questions:

  • How was God faithful in today’s lesson?
  • What did God require from Israel and the king?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By rejoicing that God is faithful.
  • By being faithful to obey God’s commands.

Principle: We should love God wholeheartedly.   Praise: “Trust and Obey”

  • Why did God punish Solomon?
  • How was Solomon punished?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By examining his heart to see whether he truly loves God.
  • By praying for the Lord’s deliverance from temptation.

Title: God Punishes Jeroboam     Passage: 1 Kings 12:1–33; 14:1–18

Principle: Christians enjoy the blessings of obedience to God’s Word.

Praise: “Humble Thyself in the Sight of the Lord”

Prompt: Ask your child these questions:

  • What were the consequences of Jeroboam’s disobedience?
  • What were the consequences of Jeroboam’s sin?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By rejoicing in that God blesses those who humbly obey His Word.
  • By realizing that God punishes those who disobey His Word.

Principle: God’s supremacy is demonstrated through humble obedience.

  • Why did Elijah call the Israelites and priests of Baal to Mount Carmel?
  • How was God glorified through the events on Mount Carmel?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By trusting that God answers the prayers of the righteous (James 5:16–18).
  • By demonstrating God’s supremacy by submitting to and worshiping Him.

  • How did God answer Hezekiah’s prayer?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By trusting God to do whatever will glorify His name.
  • By repenting of not glorifying God in actions and words.

Principle: God hates and punishes all sin. Praise: “Blessed Be the Name of the Lord”

  • Why did God punish Judah?
  • What did God promise would happen after Israel repented?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By hating sin as God does.
  • By repenting from sin and asking God for forgiveness.
