For 25 years First Congregational has heard God’s call to reach post-secondary students in Halifax. When the church built its first building in 1993, it chose a patch of land on Seldon Street so it could connect with the large student population between Quinpool Road and Dalhousie University and St. Marys University.
This original calling has never been forgotten. If you visit First Congregational today you will find worship music that is contemporary and upbeat. You’ll discover opportunities to meet other young people and plug into small groups. Throughout the school year we have a light meal or shared meal after every service, and we welcome you to stay to share some food and good company! At First Congregational you will find an intergenerational church seeking to envelope people of all ages into a supportive close-knit community.
FCCH’s passion to influence the campus is also evident through the strategic partnerships we have with with Navigators www.navigators.ca, IVCF www.ivcf.ca, and Power to Change Students www.powertochange.com.
Every Sunday except our Shared Meal Sundays, we have a light meal available to anyone who is hungry. We especially want to make sure our students get a home-cooked meal before they leave and tackle the week at school! Come downstairs to coffee hour after the service and help yourself.
We are blessed to have fantastic student leaders who are a part of our church (seen in the photo). First also welcomes participation from students in all ministries; whether your weekday schedule is too full and you would like to simply read scripture or help in the nursery on a Sunday, or you would like to come in midweek and join the worship team or a house/small group , we would love to have you participate. Email us here or speak to someone on Sunday about getting connected!
